August 21, 2024

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has awarded a total of $26.5 million to 11 ports  - including five Green Marine participants – to electrify the operations.

All 75 public ports in the State of Washington could apply to the Port Electrification Grant Program. Following a competitive review process, the program’s initial year of grants included:

  • $2.6 million to the Northwest Seaport Alliance for shore power planning
  • $1.03 million to the Port of Anacortes for shore power and zero emission equipment
  • $2.8 million to the Port of Bellingham for shore power
  • $1 million to the Port of Seattle for shore power.
  • $4.3 million to the Port of Everett for shore power, electric truck and cleaner generators.

The entire 11 projects are collectively expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 140,000 metric tons over the next decade.
