Call for speakers

The Green Marine team is already enthusiastically planning the yearly gathering that has become a must for everyone involved or interested in maritime transportation and its greater sustainability through greener technologies, innovation and best practices.

GreenTech 2020 will be held at the Omni Mont-Royal Hotel, in Montreal, QC, from Tuesday, June 2 to Thursday, June 4.

Green Marine welcomes proposals for presentations from the maritime community focusing on real-life experiences, case studies and/ or leading edge research that show delegates how best practices, new technologies and insightful partnerships make a difference. Green Marine invites you to submit proposals on the different environmental issues covered by our environmental program performance indicators and on subjects of current interest to our U.S. and Canadian participants: ship owners, ports, terminals , Seaway corporations, and shipyards— The main topics of interest for this year’s program are listed below.

GREENTECH 2020 TOPICS OF INTEREST

  • Communications, Public Perception and Community Outreach (How to better communicate the industry’s proactive actions and sustainability efforts; Importance of explaining port development projects or operations; The dos and don’ts of communications strategies in the era of social media, etc.)
  • The Challenge of Decarbonisation (How to achieve the IMO 2030 and 2050 goals; Innovation, technologies and alternative fuels; Electrification and shore power projects, Co-benefits of reducing GHG emissions for other environmental issues (underwater noise, sulphur cap); etc.)
  • Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization (Can artificial intelligence help the maritime industry be more sustainable?; Initiatives to accelerate innovation and efficiency; Specific examples/projects where digital technology is contributing to understand and/or reduce the shipping industry’s environmental footprint, etc.)
  • The ‘‘Human Factor’’ in sustainability (How corporate social responsibility affects employee recruitment/retention; Workforce-related aspects of environmental issues; Third pillar of sustainability; etc.)
  • Transboundary and binational initiatives (Collaborative Canada/US approaches to address air quality, water quality and marine mammal protection along the border on the west coast, the east coast, the Great Lakes and the Arctic)

Submit a paper

Criteria

The Green Marine Secretariat will evaluate proposals for papers based on the following criteria:

  • Interest, relevance and topicality (deals with current and/or local matters)
  • Innovation and originality

Agreement

Speakers agree to:

  • Be available for the conference on both Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, 2020
  • Give their presentation either in English or French (simultaneous translation will be provided for the delegates)
  • Provide their biography, photograph, presentation title and synopsis at least one month prior to the event
  • Supply their PowerPoint presentation at least one week prior to the event
  • Respect the time period allotted for the conference (approximately 20 minutes per presentation)
  • Inform the Green Marine Secretariat if they are unable to participate and make every reasonable effort to find a replacement within their organization.
  • Allow Green Marine to use their name, title, company as well as any information provided in relation to their presentation for Green Tech 2020 advertising purposes.
  • Have their presentation and/or slide presentation (PDF) posted on the Green Marine website post-conference

Participation

Speakers are entitled to one free registration per presentation for all GreenTech 2020 conference-related activities (breakfast and lunch included both days) and participation in the certification ceremony event and the opening cocktail reception. Co-presenters are allowed but will need to pay a reduced registration fee. No more than two speakers per presentation. Speakers must pay their own travel and accommodation expenses, as well as any other costs related to their participation in the event.

Submission deadline

Proposals must be sent to the Green Marine Secretariat no later than Friday, December 6, 2019. The Green Marine Secretariat will announce its decision in January 2020. Priority will be given to applications that respect the deadline and that meet the eligibility criteria.

GreenTech 2019 becomes 6th certified carbon-neutral Green Marine event
