As part of the repairs to the employee parking lot at the St. Lambert lock, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) had a concrete slab containing recycled glass placed at its administration building’s entrance.
Close to half a metric tonne of recycled glass powder was mixed into the 12 cubic metres (2,639 gallons) of concrete for the slab, which significantly reduced the volume of required cement. Approximately 662 wine bottles now have a second life as the slab’s glass content.
The initiative also reduced the C02 emissions associated with making cement powder by about half a tonne.
