The Quebec government has unveiled its new maritime vision called Avantage Saint-Laurent. The vision sets forth the goal of making the St. Lawrence River a high-performance economic corridor that respects ecosystems and the environmental health of riverside communities.
Chantal Rouleau, Quebec’s Minister of Transport and Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and Montreal region, announced June 17 that the province will make a total of $926.9 million available to Quebec maritime companies for investments aligned with the vision’s three main priorities:
– to provide the St. Lawrence with modern, competitive port infrastructure
– to ensure efficient navigation on the river that respects ecosystems
– to give maritime communities promising, sustainable development opportunities.
Jean Boulet, Quebec’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity and the Minister responsible for the Mauricie region, was also present.
By emphasizing a respect for ecosystems, such as aquatic fauna and flora, the maritime vision will encourage Quebec’s maritime industry to further improve the environmental sustainability of their activities – a vision shared by Green Marine whose mission is to advance environmental excellence within the maritime sector.
