As part of its efforts to electrify its equipment fleet, PSA Halifax has purchased eight new electric rubber-tired gantry cranes (E-RTGs) for its Atlantic Hub Terminal.
Supplied by the Finnish industrial equipment company Konecranes, the E-RTGs cranes are designed for space-saving container terminals requiring top container handling performance. They are equipped with the latest core of lifting components, giving them a capacity to lift up to 65 tonnes under spreader.
In addition to increasing the Atlantic Hub Terminal’s handling capacity by 25 per cent with a total of 17 cranes, the E-RTGs will help the port achieve its goals of reducing its carbon emissions by half by 2030 (compared to its 2019 baseline) and to net zero carbon by 2050.
Scheduled to arrive next spring, the new cranes will replace existing diesel equipment to make the Atlantic Hub an all-electric RTG operating environment.
