PortsToronto celebrates its first Port Day

June 17, 2025

On May 20th, PortsToronto held its inaugural Port Day, inviting stakeholders to learn more about the Port of Toronto and its key role in the city. The event showcased the port’s impact on cargo movement, cruise ship operations, and the local economy.

Held aboard the cruise ship Viking Octantis, the event also showed the significance of maritime tourism in the region, with Toronto serving as a homeport for Viking Expeditions (a Green Marine participant) on the Great Lakes for four seasons.

This initiative reflects PortsToronto’s commitment to community outreach and engagement, in line with the “Community Relations” performance indicator of the Green Marine environmental program.

“It’s not this or that on the waterfront, but and. The ecosystem can thrive in all its forms, whether it’s recreating on the water, living on the water, or working on the water. All of it needs to be supported.” — RJ Steenstra, President & CEO, PortsToronto
