California’s Port of Hueneme has been recognized for its environmental projects with a state award. The Earth Day Award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship recognizes a series of strategic environmental initiatives first adopted by the port in 2012. They include stringent air and water quality measures, the protection of marine resources, healthy soil and sediment maintenance, and climate change adaptation. The Port of Hueneme celebrates 25 years as a U.S. Port of Entry this year. Since its 1992 designation, the port has more than tripled its cargo volume from 478,384 tons originally to almost 1.5 million tons today.
