New AIVP report assesses port-city-industry green shipping corridor alliances

December 11, 2024

AIVP continues its commitment to a more sustainable maritime future with the publication of a new analysis focused on green shipping corridors. The analysis explores the partnerships among ports, cities, and industry stakeholders to accelerate the maritime sector’s decarbonization.

The publication highlights the core principles behind green corridors, the challenges regarding their implementation, and the remaining uncertainties, particularly in terms of future fuels. It features interviews with key players involved in established green corridors, including several members of Green Marine’s environmental certification program. The Cruise Green Corridor Pacific North Northwest, Alaska includes the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Blue Sky Maritime Coalition, Port of Seattle, Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, and Washington Maritime Blue. The Port of Montreal is engaged in the Green Corridor Antwerp, Bruges, Montreal.

Concrete insights into the progress and challenges of developing green corridors, particularly regarding infrastructure adaptation and the energy transition in maritime transport, are outlined in the analysis.

As the climate crisis demands a rapid acceleration of decarbonization efforts, AIVP’s report aims to foster dialogue and strengthen international cooperation for a more sustainable and community-friendly maritime industry.
