Dutch towage and maritime company KOTUG International has entered into a framework agreement with Padmos to construct the E-Pusher series of zero-emission electric pusher tugs.
The three models – small, medium and large – span between nine and 22 metres (29.5 to 72 feet) in length with a reduced draught compared to conventional designs. Each tug features swappable energy containers accommodating diesel, biogas, hydrogen and battery solutions aimed at eliminating carbon emissions. The E-Pusher 1 boat and barges reduce CO2 emissions by 190 metric tons annually, the equivalent of eliminating 15,000 truck trips over the same distance.
The collaboration between KOTUG and Padmos is a significant step towards supporting the global energy transition and encouraging a shift from road transport to waterways. Currently a Green Marine partner, KOTUG Canada intends to certify its vessels once they begin operating in Canada.
