In operation since 2007, Greenfield Global Québec’s facility in Varennes was the first ethanol plant to be built in Quebec and remains a model of energy and water efficiency in its production of the lowest intensity ethanol in Canada.
The Varennes biorefinery has a unique partnership with the Société d'économie mixte de l'est de la couronne sud (SEMECS), which treats the organic waste of local municipalities and turns it into biogas and fertilizers. The Varennes plant uses this biogas in its process facilities, reducing its reliance on natural gas and carbon footprint.
