The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority presented its Blue Circle Awards for Environmental Stewardship in June to recognize shipping companies and terminals that excel in environmental management and achieve the highest level of participation in the port authority's EcoAction program.
In all, 11 shipping lines and four coastal marine operators were recognized for their efforts to conserve energy and reduce emissions. Five of the recipients are Green Marine participants. Congratulations to Viking Expeditions, British Columbia Ferry Services, North Arm Transportation, SAAM Towage Canada, and Seaspan ULC for their leadership in reducing air emissions!
Since 2007, the EcoAction program has recognized a variety of fuel, technology and environmental management options that earn shipowners reduced rates on port dues. The environmental performance of certified Green Marine participants for reducing greenhouse gases and underwater noise qualify ship owners for the EcoAction program. In 2023, the port authority expanded its program to include a new platinum level that offer up to a 75% reduction in port fees.
