Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group and Finnish firm Wärtsilä, both Green Marine partners, are collaborating to advance the development of the Clean Harbor Alternative Mobile Power (CHAMP) barge that runs on methanol.
The CHAMP project aims to address port emissions while providing adaptable multi-megawatt (MW) power solutions. Wärtsilä's methanol engine technology will be integrated into the barge design, offering a cost-effective solution for emissions reduction in situations where shore power is limited.
With green methanol as its energy source, CHAMP is expected to provide 6 to 16 MW of power, allowing vessels to cold iron for over two weeks before refueling.
