Damaged pulp diverted from landfill through Squamish Terminals partnership

Squamish Terminals has partnered with TerraStar Solutions Inc. in a special project to manage waste. Instead of discarding the pulp damaged during loading and unloading operations, they will divert it for TerraStar’s use in its hydroseeding operations.

Hydroseeding involves applying a mixture of seed, mulch, fertilizer and stabilizing emulsion with hydro-mulch equipment to temporarily protect exposed soil from water and wind erosion.

When mixed with other fibres and organic material, pulp creates a slurry that is conducive to seed germination and plant establishment. Since the partnership’s recent establishment, TerraStar has completed an application in the Squamish area using the salvaged pulp as a slurry component.
