Welcome Novaporte, our latest partner

February 23, 2022

Novaporte is a next generation transportation hub comprising more than 2,000-acre (809-hectare) environmentally superior deep-water port, logistics centre and renewable energy infrastructure project strategically located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It will connect Europe and the Suez Canal region to North America via renewably-powered maritime transshipment and rail.

When all three phases of the project are completed, Novaporte will include a 500-acre (202-hectare) container terminal, an adjacent 1250-acre (505-hectare) logistics park, all designed to handle 3.2 million TEUs with room for future expansion.

The development is designed to meet the doubling of maritime cargo traffic through North America’s East Coast by 2050 with a net-zero carbon transportation infrastructure. Carbon neutral operations are set to be realized by an onsite waste-to-energy conversion plant, and the leveraging of available hydroelectricity, solar, wind and possibly other sources of renewable power. They will be used to produce green hydrogen to fuel ships and trains.

All pre-development and long-lead permitting is completed and the first phase – with an estimated $600-million capital expenditure – is expected to be operational in 2025.
