Washington State Ferries (WSF) launched a two-year sustainability action plan in April that outlines specific goals for greener ferries and terminals. The plan includes measures to protect orca whales, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, minimize waste, and other ways to make the ferry system more sustainable. The plan lays out a path to fulfill the Washington State Department of Transportation commitment to sustainability, achieve the energy efficiency targets set out in Governor Jay Inslee’s Executive Order 18-01 and the orca recovery objectives in 18-02, as well as implement the sustainability recommendations outlined in the 2040 long range plan.
