A NOAA Ocean-Based Climate Resilience Accelerator Phase 1 award has been presented to Washington Maritime Blue in recognition of its efforts in accelerating blue economy startups.
Joshua Berger, Washington Maritime Blue’s president and CEO, welcomes the more than $248,000 in initial funding, emphasizing its importance to early-stage innovation in ocean-based climate solutions. Additionally, Phase 1 awardees can apply for Phase 2, with up to $55 million available to support the implementation of proposed accelerators.
The funding, provided through the Integrated Ocean Observing Service (IOOS), supports businesses in commercializing solutions aligned with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s mission to assist communities in preparing for, adapting to, and enhancing resilience in terms of climate challenges. Funded by the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, the program marks a significant federal investment in climate resilience.
