Valero Energy Inc. bolsters its commitment to environmental excellence by adding a third terminal to Green Marine

February 9, 2022

Gaspé, February 9, 2022 – The Gaspé Terminal has become the third Valero Energy facility to join Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification program for the North American maritime industry. Its participation is in addition to the Jean-Gaulin Refinery in Lévis, which is one of Green Marine’s founding members, and the Montreal East Terminal, the largest of its kind in Canada.

« Valero demonstrates great rigour in the conduct of its activities in all matters relating to the environment, » said Jean-Sébastien Borduas, executive director of Pipeline and Terminals. « Obtaining Green Marine certification for the Gaspé Terminal, as was the case for those in Lévis and Montreal East, is therefore the logical next step in the process of continuous improvement of our environmental performance. »

Dave Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director, welcomed the addition. « We are pleased to see the Gaspé Terminal join our environmental certification program, » he said. « The addition of this new terminal reflects Valero Energy’s commitment to sustainable operations throughout the Province of Quebec. »

The Green Marine environmental certification program addresses a number of environmental priority issues through its 14 performance indicators, including greenhouse gases, air emissions, spill prevention and stormwater management, community relations and impacts, waste management, and underwater noise. Some indicators apply to landside operations and others to shipping activities. The certification process is rigorous and transparent, with the results independently verified every two years and the individual performance of each participant made public annually. The first results of the Gaspé Terminal will relate to its environmental performance for the year 2022 and will be published in 2023.
