INREST’s "Enviro-Actions" project, led by the Centre d'expertise industrialo-portuaire (CEIP) to implement a preventive environmental management system within Quebec's industrial-port zones, has been recognized by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
Developed by Dr. Julie Carrière, this five-step model facilitates near real-time water and air quality monitoring. Automated analysis algorithms and alert systems quickly detect anomalies, facilitating immediate interventions to protect local ecosystems.
The project is funded by Quebec’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and supported by partners that include the Port of Sept-Îles, the Port of Saguenay, Rio Tinto, and Promotion Saguenay.
In collaboration with l’Université Laval and l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, INREST showcases Quebec's leadership in environmental protection within the maritime sector.
