As part of its long-term vision of zero-emission cargo handling, the Port of Hueneme has purchased a new Liebherr LHM420 hybrid mobile crane that can be powered by electricity.
The crane will be used to deliver the world’s first zero-emission ship-to-store avocados. The Port of Hueneme is part of an initiative to reduce the carbon impact of transporting avocados to California. Grown in South America, avocados are shipped under temperature-controlled conditions that produce carbon emissions. The Port of Hueneme is aiming to eliminate the carbon from the ship-to-shore part of the delivery process.
