As part of the 26th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26), the Port of Antwerp and the Port of Montreal have signed an agreement to collaborate on establishing the first green maritime corridor in the North Atlantic.
Strengthening a partnership established since 2013, the agreement by the two port authorities relates their commitment to actively engage in the maritime industry’s decarbonation through their respective expertise and partnerships. By calling on the private and public sectors to mobilize for the research and/or identification of better solutions and the development of common infrastructure, the two ports seek to facilitate the commercialized trade of green fuels, the powering of ships with renewable fuels, and the use of cleaner technologies.
As one of the world’s largest bunkering ports, the Port of Antwerp will share its experience with the Port of Montreal while maintaining its pioneering role in the field. Based on renewable and circular energies, this partnership ultimately aims to contribute to achieving the global decarbonization objectives for the industry.
