Germany has become the first country to join Transport Canada’s Green Shipping Corridor Program, a federal initiative aimed at decarbonizing maritime shipping along key Canadian trade routes.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed Oct. 6th by Germany’s State Secretary Claudia Elif Stutz during a high-level bilateral meeting in Ottawa. The agreement strengthens international cooperation to advance climate-friendly shipping and supports the development of green shipping corridors between Eastern Canada and major ports worldwide.
Through the partnership, both countries will encourage the use of climate-neutral technologies in shipping, including solutions that reduce emissions from port operations and vessels. The initiative aligns with Germany’s National Action Plan for Climate-Friendly Shipping and reinforces Canada’s role in global efforts to advance low-emission maritime transportation.
