The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has become the first port authority to join the Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), a multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together leading organizations with the shared goals and determination to improve the shipping industry’s sustainability in terms of its social, environmental, and economic impacts.
Now consisting of 17 members, including ship owners, charterers, classification societies, NGOs and financial institutions, the SSI is working towards achieving the milestones laid out in a sustainability roadmap for the industry.
With a vision of making the Port of Vancouver the world’s most sustainable port, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has set the goal of phasing out all port-related emissions by 2050.
Within the Green Marine program, the port has achieved the highest-ranking Level 5 scores for each of the applicable indicators for its 2021 environmental performance, demonstrating its strong environmental leadership.
