The Quebec Port Authority seized the opportunity at its annual general meeting, earlier today, to unveil a new citizen participatory environmental process. The new approach has three obligatory components, namely: to inform the public and ensure their input in projects; to request an assessment of the environmental impacts of every project from an independent firm; and, to take into account the comments made by citizens and other interested parties.
Input from citizens and organizations will henceforth be sought for all projects. The port’s website now has a designated section to explain the process, convey projects as well as their environmental assessment, thereby facilitating public feedback. The form of citizen participation will vary depending on the type of project.
This new citizen participatory environmental process will be an information and consultation tool.
