On June 8th, the Port of Nanaimo teamed up with the City of Nanaimo, Snuneymuxw First Nation, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada to host a World Oceans Day event. The day’s various activities included games and marine touch tanks for children of all ages to become more familiar and appreciative of marine life. Community members volunteered to clean up the beaches around Nanaimo’s harbour. This included the port collaborating with Sundown Diving and Nanaimo Dive Outfitters to pick up garbage that has been resting at the bottom of the marina. In just two hours, seven bins of debris were collected!
