The Port of Montreal and Port Saint John each contribute to habitat plantings

October 25, 2022

Both the Port of Montreal and Port Saint John are actively involved in habitat restoration.

The Montreal Port Authority will provide financial support for the restoration of the riparian buffer strips on Bouchard Island, a priority ecosystem in the region with its wetlands providing a home to vulnerable species. The project is improving the island’s riparian buffers strips – 74% of which are in poor quality – by planting 500 native trees and shrubs over a 1,650 square-metre (17,760-square foot) area.

At Port Saint John, employees planted tree seedlings near Hazen Creek last October as part of the port’s environmental policy. Port Saint John also sponsored a habitat restoration project in this area that involved planting 300 additional seedlings.
