The Port of Halifax releases its 2018-2019 sustainability report

August 3, 2020

The Halifax Port Authority (HPA) has published its 2018-2019 Sustainability Report on its website. This second report shows the progress made at the Port of Halifax since 2017 while also highlighting the areas that the HPA is continuing to work at improving.

Defining sustainability as a balance of economics, community integration and the environment, the HPA is working to better integrate this balance in all aspects of the organization. The HPA recognizes that in order to be a true economic development hub, the port must also take a leadership role in environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Notable 2018-2019 highlights include:

  • Improving the port’s performance in the Green Marine environmental program. The average score for participating ports across all applicable areas for the 2019 reporting year was 2.9. The HPA achieved an average score of 4.33 for this same period.
  • Introducing a Port Community Liaison Committee.
  • Conducting public consultations in March and April 2019 on infrastructure planning specifically related to ultra-class vessel infrastructure development and the port’s overall growth strategy.
