The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) obtained LEED Silver certification this past December for its new Sorel-Tracy river ferry station. Inaugurated in the summer of 2019, the facility was planned and constructed in ways that minimized its environmental footprint. These included sustainable sourcing during construction that involved selecting materials based on their life cycle, as well as installing systems for the efficient use of energy and water. Built as part of the overall project at the Sorel-Tracy-Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola crossing, the ferry station on the Sorel-Tracy side is the first of the two stations expected to receive the certification.
