The St. Lawrence Economic Development Council (SODES) is playing a key role in developing an ambitious plan to decarbonize Quebec's maritime industry. Collaborating with expert firms, SODES has commissioned strategic studies that establish a clear framework to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector by 2030 and 2050, aligned with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) targets.
This decarbonization plan specifically targets port operations and inland navigation along the St. Lawrence River, focusing on adopting low-emission alternative fuels and improving operational practices. SODES' approach is collaborative and responsible, supported by the government and various maritime industry players, and aims to foster a sustainable ecological transition for the region.
Leveraging results from the Quebec Maritime Industry Decarbonization Working Group, SODES and its partners demonstrate their commitment to environmental excellence and marine ecosystem protection through continual improvement, aligning with Green Marine’s core values.
