Smarter, cleaner lighting at Maisonneuve Terminal

March 30, 2026

Termont Montréal Inc., a certified Green Marine participant, has taken another step in modernizing its facilities by upgrading the outdoor lighting system at the Maisonneuve Terminal in the Port of Montreal. Completed in partnership with Concept Illumination, the project improves nighttime visibility on site while reducing energy use and light pollution for nearby communities.

The new LED luminaires and optimized lighting layout, mounted on 100-foot masts, provide more uniform illumination of traffic lanes and handling areas, enhancing safety for workers and cargo operations. The results are clear and measurable:

  • Over 80% reduction in energy consumption
  • Decreased long-term maintenance requirements
  • Optimized lighting for a safer working environment

By cutting glare and limiting light spill toward the sky and residential areas, the project supports Green Marine’s objectives to reduce light nuisance and better harmonize port activities with neighbouring communities.

This project shows how a container terminal can combine operational performance with environmental responsibility by investing in more energy-efficient, community-friendly lighting solutions.
