The Juno Marie, which provides bunkering services year-round to ships at the Port of Montreal, has gone electric.
A new shore power system was installed in Section 73 of the port specifically for the Juno Marie in late January. The bunkering tanker can now remain plugged into electricity when not refueling other vessels.
Its shore power system (600 V/200 A) is similar to those used by ships wintering at the port, bringing the number of connections available on the port's docks to 42.
Juno Marie’s electrification is part of the Montreal Port Authority's commitment to deploying more electrical systems for ships to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable energy use, with the goal of carbon neutrality by 2035.
