Le Comité Sectoriel de Main-d’Oeuvre de l’Industrie Maritime (CSMOIM), which is the Human Resources Sectorial Committee for Quebec’s maritime industry, is proud to announce the completion of a new training program that specializes in shipboard cooking.
The program is the result of the close collaboration among the CSMOIM, l’Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (the province’s tourism and hotel institute), and experienced shipboard chefs.
It is designed for ship chefs and second chefs, as well as landside foodservice professionals looking to make a transition to the maritime sector. The program consists of theory and hands-on training aimed at developing the necessary culinary skills as well as addressing the unique realities of working aboard a vessel.
The initiative aligns with the CSMOIM’s mission of supporting the development of a skilled workforce to meeting the current and future needs of the maritime industry. The program is also central to promoting the profession of a ship’s cook as a specialized trade that fills an essential onboard role.
More information will be made available in the coming months leading up to the program’s official launch.
