Seaspan Energy has taken a significant step toward maritime decarbonization by completing Canada’s first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering. The Seaspan Garibaldi, one of three LNG bunkering vessels in Seaspan’s fleet, successfully refuelled the CMA CGM Pointe Du Piton at the Port of Vancouver, marking a critical moment in the transition toward cleaner marine fuels. As a lower-emission alternative, LNG significantly reduces pollutants, helping to make maritime transport more sustainable.
With its fleet and supply partnerships, Seaspan Energy plays a key role in the energy transition. As its president, Harly Penner, stated, “Seaspan is proud to be at the forefront of helping to reduce vessel emissions here in North America as LNG becomes an increasingly important transitional fuel for the marine industry.”
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority also praised this achievement, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safe and efficient bunkering services. Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy, highlighted the benefits of low-emission Canadian LNG in strengthening trade relations while supporting the global decarbonization of the maritime sector. Seaspan Energy, a subsidiary of Seaspan Marine (a Green Marine certified participant), is thus positioned as a key player in this energy transition.
