Seaspan celebrates 15 years of sustainability, from shipyard to shoreline

August 7, 2025

This year marks the 15th year since Seaspan joined Green Marine as a participant, underscoring its longstanding commitment to sustainability throughout its shipyards and marine operations. Since becoming the first West Coast ship owner and shipyard to join the program in 2010, the company has consistently gone beyond regulatory requirements to manage waste, reduce pollution, and lower its carbon footprint.

Over the years, Seaspan Shipyards and Seaspan Marine have demonstrated a high level of performance within Green Marine’s rigorous framework. Their results show tangible improvements such as adopting electric-powered employee shuttles, reducing underwater noise through the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s ECHO Program, and investing in energy-efficient technologies recognized by BC Hydro’s Clean Energy Champion initiative. This proactive approach is embedded within all levels of the organization.

Seaspan is highlighting some of the other key environmental initiatives over the past 15 years in a new online video (see below). Senior Environmental Specialist Shayla Brown and Environmental Specialist Jenna Olsen present how the company’s teams are taking various steps towards collectively achieving greater sustainability.
