RJMI (R.J. MacIsaac) is the first ship recycling yard in Canada to meet new international environmental and safety standards.
“Our focus on continuous improvement in safety, environmental protection and efficiency is the reason we are getting these international certifications,” says Boyd MacIsaac, the company’s president.
The Nova Scotia-based company officially complies with the Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. The Hong Kong Convention (HKC) is overseen by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is a major advancement in environmental and worker safety practices for the sector globally.
For certification, RJMI had to demonstrate to the Lloyd’s Register classification society, a Green Marine partner, that its environmental protection, workforce safety and emergency preparedness systems go beyond the strict HKC’s conditions that must be met as of June 26, 2025. Lloyd’s Register has also verified RJMI’s adherence to the company’s internal policies on environmental, social and corporate governance.
RJMI has safely dismantled diverse assets, including the Deep Panuke offshore gas project’s platform.
