The Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which is a Green Marine supporter, has announced $2.26 million in funding to support Rio Tinto Alcan Inc., a Green Marine participant, in automating two alumina unloaders at its Port-Alfred port facilities.
Modernizing the marine facilities will reduce ship waiting times, as well as alumina dust emissions. The funding is part of Advantage St. Lawrence, an initiative designed to reduce the environmental impact of shipping while strengthening the sector's competitiveness. It aligns with the government's vision of supporting economic development while also protecting the environment.
"The establishment of a smart economic corridor is one of the flagship measures of our Advantage St. Lawrence maritime strategy," says Geneviève Guilbault, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. "In this project, the use of innovation makes it possible to reconcile the environment and economic development, which is fully in line with our government's objectives.”
