The Environmental Protection Agency has chosen to fund a project by the Port of New Orleans to revitalize a 5.5-mile (8.8-kilometre) corridor of industrial, residential and mixed-use properties. The EPA grant will fund a strategic plan for the remediation and redevelopment of Brownfield properties along the Industrial Canal Corridor in New Orleans. The project area includes 1,000 acres (404 hectares) of port-owned industrial property on both sides of the Industrial Canal running south from Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River, a small portion that runs east along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, as well as City of New Orleans neighborhoods abutting the corridor.
