Seeking to involve the leaders of tomorrow, Port Saint John has partnered with the Pond-Deshpande Centre at the University of New Brunswick to invite university and college students from across the province to put forward their ideas for decarbonizing the port’s activities.
“The port is growing quickly, and it wants to grow sustainably and encourage its marine traffic customers and partners to do the same,” says Katie Davey, Executive Director of the Pond-Deshpande Centre that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship through a collaborative approach that encourages curiosity and creativity in finding workable solutions.
Each team of five students has been asked to submit a business plan that outlines their proposals for ways the port can encourage its tenants and customers to collectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to presenting their ideas at Port Days on June 1st and being featured on Port Saint John’s new podcast, the winning team will be awarded $1,000 per student.
Students have until March 10th to submit their suggestions.
