Port Saint John acquires Renewable Energy Certificates to achieve carbon neutrality

May 3, 2022

Port Saint John is among the first two companies in the region to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates from local electricity provider Saint John Energy.

Intended to help energy buyers achieve carbon neutrality, the certificates guarantee the renewable source of electricity flowing through the grid. In the port's case, the renewable energy will come from the Burchill Wind Farm in Lorneville, New Brunswick, which is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

While demand for Renewable Energy Certificates is high, Port Saint John was able to acquire enough to cover all of the energy consumption required for its operations, for both cruise and cargo terminals.
