Port of Trois-Rivières invests $100,000 in green, sustainable technologies research at UQTR

October 12, 2026

The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Foundation is receiving $100,000 from the Port of Trois-Rivières to support research activities in green and sustainable technologies at the new Pellerin-Marmen Pavilion. The port’s contribution will help to advance research linked to the St. Lawrence River’s ecological health, as well as to other environmental protection, energy efficiencies, and northern agriculture.

Anick Métivier, the Trois-Rivières Port Authority’s President and CEO, says the port wants to be actively involved in the green transitions necessary to address water, energy and freight transportation challenges for the community’s sustainable economic future.

“By working with UQTR, we are doing more than providing financial support for research: we are making our expertise, facilities, and operations available to support the innovation that will emerge from the pavilion,” he says. “The port and the pavilion will become true living laboratories where knowledge is transformed into practical solutions for Mauricie and Quebec.”

The investment in the $54-million facility builds on a 26-year partnership between the Port of Trois-Rivières and the UQTR that reflects the community’s vision of a port city and university centre, where knowledge and economic activity strengthen one another for the benefit of the community. The Pavillon Pellerin-Marmen is designed to bring together research teams, specialized equipment, and partners from various sectors under a single roof.

“Thanks to the port’s support, we will be able to advance research projects and foster new collaborations among complementary areas of expertise,” Sophie Rochefort, the Pavillon Pellerin-Marmen’s director, says.

A commemorative plaque will be installed to recognize the port’s commitment to research at UQTR. The pavilion’s official inauguration is planned for later this fall.
