Two large stators (the stationary portion of an electric generator or motor) destined for the Lake Don Pedro Life Extension Project have passed through the Port of Stockton in a carefully planned heavy lift operation.
The transport relied on coordination among Luminary Logistics, SSA Marine (also a Green Marine-certified participant), and Barnhart Crane and Rigging to ensure a safe and efficient process.
The 114 metric-ton stators arrived from Santos, Brazil, aboard the M.V. ABB VANESSA and were carefully offloaded by the skilled members of International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) Locals 54, 91, and 34. Using the ship’s own cranes, the team carefully lifted the stators and placed them onto Barnhart Crane’s SPMT units, ensuring a smooth transition from ship to shore.
The stators will support increased clean energy production at the Lake Don Pedro plant, raising its generating capacity from 203 MW to about 268 MW (which is the equivalent power to supply 160,000 to 260,000 homes, depending on their use). This growth in renewable output is expected to help replace 317,514 metric tons of coal annually.
The port’s contribution to this project reflects its vital role as Northern California’s maritime logistics hub for large-scale, environmentally responsible initiatives.
