The Port of San Diego and ECOncrete received the Innovative Partnership Award from The Climate Registry at the 2024 Climate Leadership Awards held May 22. The award highlights their leadership in reducing carbon pollution and promoting sustainable practices.
Supported by the port’s Blue Economy Incubator, ECOncrete deployed COASTALOCK, an interlocking tidal pool system made of bio-enhancing concrete, along San Diego Bay’s Harbor Island. The system promotes reduces the carbon footprint of port-related projects as it promotes marine biodiversity. Since its installation, it has fostered various sea life, demonstrating its success.
Established in 2026, the port’s Blue Economy Incubator aims to develop sustainable aquaculture and blue technologies. The Innovative Partnership award underscores the port’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
