The Quebec Port Authority has reached an important milestone in its sustainable development strategy by achieving the Gold tier in the Net-Zero Challenge, a federal government initiative that encourages organizations to plan and implement concrete measures to achieve carbon neutrality.
Since joining the Challenge in 2023, the port has committed to significantly reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and structuring its actions around clear targets: a 40% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035, and full carbon neutrality by 2050 for the Scope 1 and 2 emissions. These goals align with Green Marine’s Air Emissions – Greenhouse Gases performance indicator’s highest level’s requirements.
The Gold tier achievement reflects how the port’s long-term commitment to sustainability is grounded in thorough planning and tangible actions. The port's Environmental, Social, Governance and Sustainable Development Plan 2024-2028 supports these efforts by providing a strategic framework to embed sustainability in daily activities and maintain consistency across projects in line with longer term carbon neutrality goals.
