Port of Prince Rupert mobilizes community to achieve a cleaner shoreline

April 22, 2025
To mark Earth Day, the Port of Prince Rupert led a successful shoreline cleanup on April 18 by gathering 70 volunteers to pick up trash in Seal Cove and Cow Bay.

The effort was made possible through the support of 13 organizations, including Green Marine participants AltaGas, DP World, and the Pembina Pipeline Corporation, as well as Green Marine partner McElhanney Ltd. Nearly 40 port employees took part in the local effort to maintain healthy marine ecosystems.

The volunteers collected almost 280 kilograms (617 pounds) of waste across two kilometres (1.2 miles), including 1,608 cigarette butts, 182 plastic bags, 119 coffee cups and lids, and 365 pieces of paper. A kayak and a toilet were among the more unexpected finds.
