The Port of Hueneme and NYK Line have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Green Automotive Shipping Corridor between Southern California and Japan. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, advance energy efficiencies, and integrate alternative fuels and zero-emission technologies into maritime and automotive logistics.
“This is not something we can achieve on our own. It requires building strong partnerships with many stakeholders,” said Mr. Yutaka Ikeda, Managing Executive Officer of NYK Line. “The signing of the MOU with the Port of Hueneme is a significant step toward achieving a greener future in the logistics industry.”
Sustainable commerce is the underlying goal of this new collaboration. A key U.S. hub for automobile imports, the Port of Hueneme processes approximately 400,000 vehicles annually of which 20% are battery electric vehicles. NYK Line, a global leader in maritime shipping, has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The MoU focuses on research and innovation in new technologies to achieve a cleaner future within this logistics chain.
