A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Port of Hueneme and the Port of Yokohama has established a green automotive shipping corridor as an essential initiative for sustainable port development and the successful transition to a zero-emissions future.
The MoU is one of two agreements signed during the productive10-day trade mission by Port of Hueneme representatives and Oxnard Harbor District commissioners in Japan and South Korea in tandem with California’s World Trade Week.
“I was especially honoured to be a part of this historic trade mission to Japan and South Korea,” Celina Zacarias, the Oxnard Harbor District’s president, says. “It is important for the Port of Hueneme to be a bridge to foster robust relationships with two of our most esteemed trading partners.”
The second MoU was signed between the Port of Hueneme and the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Pyeongtaek International Ro-Ro Terminal, which is the WWL automotive terminal at the Port of Pyeongtaek in South Korea. It also sets out to establish a green automotive shipping corridor.
From Seoul to Pyeongtaek, Ulsan to Busan, and Tokyo to Yokohama, the mission was focused on increasing the business of existing customers by relating how the port’s sustainable development priorities can facilitate automotive logistics within green shipping corridors.
