Port NOLA celebrates two big sustainability firsts with Envision registration

September 26, 2025

The Port of New Orleans has achieved a national milestone as its Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) project became the first new U.S. container terminal and the first Louisiana project to register with the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework.

Developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) (a Green Marine Association member), Envision is a comprehensive framework that helps plan, design, and deliver sustainable and resilient infrastructure. It provides a standardized approach to evaluating environmental, social, and economic performance across a project’s entire lifecycle.

By aligning with Envision, Port NOLA and its partners will undergo a third-party verification process that strengthens transparency, encourages collaboration, and demonstrates responsible governance. The benefits of this approach include standardized assessment, motivation for higher performance, and enhanced visibility of sustainability achievements.

As one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the Gulf region and for the United States economy, the LIT is expected to serve as a premier gateway for international trade, connecting global markets to America’s heartland. Through Envision, Port NOLA is ensuring that this significant development meets the highest sustainability standards while supporting economic growth and community well-being.
