PORT OF MONTREAL JOINS UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

April 22, 2022

On Earth Day, the Port of Montreal announced its participation in the United Nations Global Compact which brings together companies that are committed to sustainable development and responsible business practices.

The compact involves a voluntary commitment to addressing global challenges and building a better world by applying universal principles to achieve sustainable development goals. Launched in 2020, the initiative now includes more than 15,000 companies in over 160 countries. Joining the pact comes with certain responsibilities, such as publishing an annual report on the company’s progress in integrating the principles related to human rights, labour, anti-corruption and the environment.

As a founding member of Green Marine, the Port of Montreal is committed to continually improving its environmental performance through sustainable concrete actions to protect the environment and biodiversity, reduce its carbon footprint, ensure proper management of its assets, and harmoniously integrate into the urban fabric.

The Port of Montreal is the second Green Marine participant to join the compact. The first in November 2021 was QSL, which specializes in port terminal operations, stevedoring, marine services, logistics and transportation throughout North America.
