On January 9, Port Hueneme realized the further greening of its cargo operations with the arrival of two new hybrid mobile harbour cranes for a long-time tenant. The more efficient cranes will support additional cargo movement, help to speed the delivery of goods to local stores, as well as reduce air emissions for the neighbouring community.
Ceres Terminal Holdings, LLC, which has provided stevedoring and terminal services at the Port of Hueneme since 2005, invested in the hybrid electric mobile cranes. The Liebherr – LHM 420 Litronic models each have two electric motors installed opposite of the latest Tier 4 diesel engines that reduce particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to near-zero levels. Relative to previous emissions standards, Tier 4 engines reduce emissions by more than 90%.
The cranes will plug into the port’s new electric infrastructure that will go online later this year.
