Picton Terminals joins Green Marine’s ranks

May 31, 2021

Odessa, Ontario, May 31, 2021 – Picton Terminals, a pivotal hub in Eastern Ontario’s supply chain, is the newest terminal company to participate in Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry.

“Employing upwards of 80 people as a major contributor to Eastern Ontario’s economy, our family-owned company has always sought the best possible environmental conditions for future generations,” said Ben Doornekamp, the director of Picton Terminals. “So joining this comprehensive environmental program is totally in step with our efforts – especially since our vision of sustainable growth so perfectly aligns with Green Marine’s core principles.”

David Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director, welcomed Picton Terminals as the first company from Ontario’s Prince Edward County to participate in Green Marine. “By joining Green Marine, Picton Terminals is further strengthening its commitment to sustainability by choosing to benchmark its efforts, have them externally verified, and take advantage of the environmental and innovative knowledge of the Green Marine network,” Bolduc said. “In the process, Picton Terminals will likely inspire other businesses in the region to undertake greater environmental goals.”

The Green Marine environmental program addresses a number of priority environmental issues through its 14 performance indicators, including greenhouse gases, air emissions, leak and spill prevention, waste management, community relations, and underwater noise. Some indicators apply to landside operations while others to shipping activities. The certification process is rigorous and transparent, with the individual performance of each participant made public annually and the results independently verified every two years.
