Prince Rupert, BC – Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Prince Rupert Terminal is the newest participant in Green Marine – the leading voluntary environmental certification program for North America's maritime industry.
Pembina will assess the Prince Rupert Terminal’s environmental performance through key performance indicators that address such issues as greenhouse gases, air emissions, spill prevention, stormwater, and waste. The certification process is rigorous and transparent, with results independently verified every two years and each participant's performance made public annually.
"Pembina is excited to join Green Marine as we believe this is an important step in our sustainability journey while continuing to grow our business responsibly”, said Jaret Sprott, Chief Operating Officer at Pembina. “Pembina embraces the opportunity to adapt, respond, and lead the way towards a more sustainable future that aligns well with the transparency and accountability Green Marine is known for.”
Prior to joining Green Marine, Pembina committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 30% by 2030, compared to its 2019 baseline. To meet this target, the Canadian company is focused on enhancing operational efficiencies, including greater use of renewable and lower-emission energy sources, as well as investing in a lower-carbon economy.
Green Marine President David Bolduc welcomed Pembina to the program’s membership. "Pembina’s decision to seek certification for this terminal reflects the company’s strong environmental leadership,” he said. "As the fifth terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert to join the program, Pembina is further reflecting the commitment by this port community to continually improving environmental sustainability.”
